Each year NYSSA awards 2 scholarships - the Norris Brusoe and the Joan Vriessen Scholarship each one is for $500. Then the top 5 applications from those will be sent to the NEC Scholarship Committee where they will compete against applications from Northeast States for two (2) $1,000 scholarships. The parents or the student must be a member of NYSSA as of January 1st. Check the NYSSA Online Magazine for the scholarship application. I will have one or two at the February meeting; however, if you need a printed copy, call (845-778-4379) or email me. The applications must be received by March 1, 2012. Also in the NYSSA magazine there is a coloring contest for kids. There are 3 age groups: ages 1-5, 6-10 and 11-15. Each age group has its own picture – all entries must be postmarked by 2/25/2012. I will have a few from each age group at the meeting, but please call or email me if you need one so that I will have enough. Think Snow!!! Lori Pinckney January 2011 Happy New Year!! We will be collecting canned/non perishable goods at the November meeting for Thanksgiving baskets for local families. Please donate; this is a very good cause. Your club membership entitles you to discounts at several local businesses. Larry Moeller has been working hard to get us these discounts. I will have a few printed copies of the list at the November meeting. Please remember you must show your club membership card to get the discount. Membership cards are available at the meetings. If I haven’t given you your new card, call or email me. Your membership with NYSSA also entitles you to discounts as well. These are posted on our website or NYSSA‘s website: www.nysnowmobiler.com, If you need a hard copy of this list, please contact me (845-778-4379) and I will get you one. We had 24 members volunteer for Adopt-A-Highway on Oct 16th. I think that’s a record. Thanks to everyone who volunteered. We have 2 Club/Group Trips planned so far. Sorry for any confusion, but the dates and locations were switched when mentioned at the October meeting. I goofed, but the following is correct! The first trip will be to the Ridgeview Lodge in Lowville, NY. The dates are January 27th through January 29th. Rooms are $85 per night (+ taxes) and include continental breakfast. Rooms have microwaves and refrigerators. They have a lounge room we can all gather in for socializing. Snowmobile rentals are available and gas is available too. Cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to arrival. The Club will coordinate food/dinner for the Saturday night. Rooms will only be held until December 30th. Phone #: 315-376-2252. The website for further information is: http://ridge-view.com/ </p> The second trip will be to The Beeches in Rome, NY from February 24th through February 26th. The “snowmobile special” is $79.95 per room (2 people) which includes a small breakfast menu (not a full menu, but that is available for additional $). The Beeches does not have a lounge where we can all sit and hang. They do have a bar and restaurant on the grounds, located in the Conference Center. Additional food options are available locally. The Club will not be coordinating a dinner for the Saturday night. Rooms will be held until January 27th and I believe the cancellation policy is the same, 48 hours. Check the website for further information: http://thebeeches.com/Home.aspx. We are looking into a third possible group trip to the Lake George area. Details to follow. If you have any questions or know of a snowmobile related event, please contact me @ 845-778-4379 or email @ info@shawangunksnowmobile.com. I would like to send out the For Sale List again. Please let me know of any updates. Thank you! Lori Pinckney
